my new blog

Hello and welcome to my blog!

So what is it all about? Well MAWIL (MIDDLE AGED WOMAN IN LYCRA) thats me! And running for charity, that’s the plan.

So what can I tell you? Well I am your typical middle aged woman who started jogging about a year ago. Never been sporty, never been fit but I have managed to keep it going for a year. Heard this story before? I have, but to be fair those ‘fat and unfit’ stories ‘but now I can run a marathon’ kept me going and I hope that my story might inspire others to have a go, and keep on going!

When I’m not out jogging I work as a consultant surgeon. I specialise in breast cancer. We would like some money in our charity fund to buy some equipment to develop our service so thats what I am planning to fundraise for. I will tell you more about that (and where I work) when I have sorted out the charity side and got permission from the boss!

So thats a little bit by the way of introduction. In my blog I’d like to tell you a little more about how I got started, what keeps me going, progress I have made and about my runs. I like to read so I will share with you some of the interesting things I have learned about running, and whether they work for me! And I’m going to take my camera out with me because the best thing for me is the lovely views I get whilst running and I want to share them with you. Although I have lived here for 15 years it is only in the last year I have discovered what a beautiful place it is!

Just to be clear I am not an athlete! My longest run so far has been 7km (just under 5 miles) which I know is nothing when there are thousands of people running the london marathon today. but if like me, you have never been sporty and can’t run 200m down the road, then you will know what an achivement that can be!

So that the intro.

Now I need to go for a run!

About mawil1

Hi my name is julie and I took up running at the age of 46! Hence 'mawil' Middle Aged Woman In Lycra. I did it at first because someone asked me to do a charity run with them. I couldn't run at all, but pride wouldn't let me be seen to be unable to run so I started a walk run programme. I stuck with it and to my surprise I found that I liked it- after a couple of weeks of progress I was hooked! My blog is about my progress in running and how I fit it in with the rest of my life.
