All play and no work…….

More partying on Friday night so I didn’t run on Friday (got up at 6 to pack my party gear as I was going straight from work) and too tired/hungover to run on Saturday. So two runs down. It was all in a good cause though. The radiographers at work had organised a ‘pink tie ball’ with proceeds going to the charity breast cancer care. It was a fantastic night so thanks to Karen Boulton who was chief organiser for a fun night and for raising money for a good cause.

However a dismal running record this week Monday I rested after Sunday’s 10 miler, Tuesday/Wednesday what happened? I just got tied up in thinking that other things were more important. I had Joe’s parents evening on Tuesday and a meeting to prepare for on Wednesday.
Thursday eve I managed a 20 minute dash. The weather has changed now. It’s cold and the air smells of woodsmoke. It brought back some visceral kind of memory of running last winter. Funny thing was it was a happy memory and I feel ok about the up and coming winter. I had got used to the warm weather and had been worrying about wind and rain and darkness.
In retrospect I do think that I could have made more of an effort to get up early in the morning to run.

Today I didn’t got for a long run. I thought that after 2 really slack weeks it might be too much of a shock for my poor old body! I took myself out for 7k and although it was a bit of a slog I kept going and had energy left when I got home.
I have a crazy plan for doing my long run in the morning, if I get up before 6 I can do a 2 hr run and be back in time to take my son to school.

The hill you can see in the background is the one I’m planning to run over tomorrow. It’s only a 10k run but there’s a 100m climb in there. I’ve done it twice before. It’s tough and last time I walked more than half of that hill. But now I’ve told you all that I’m going to do it I’d better set my alarm clock and grit my teeth!

Only 3 weeks to go. Two weeks to really try to get into the best shape I can, then 1week to chill before the event,

About mawil1

Hi my name is julie and I took up running at the age of 46! Hence 'mawil' Middle Aged Woman In Lycra. I did it at first because someone asked me to do a charity run with them. I couldn't run at all, but pride wouldn't let me be seen to be unable to run so I started a walk run programme. I stuck with it and to my surprise I found that I liked it- after a couple of weeks of progress I was hooked! My blog is about my progress in running and how I fit it in with the rest of my life.
